OUR GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY - 50 YEARS OF SERVICE

In what started as a dream for many in 1959, the Prompton Fire & Rescue Unit has grown into a well-managed, well-trained, fiscally-responsible and progressive fire service organization.  2009 marks our fiftieth year of providing fire suppression, fire prevention and other services to our residents.  As we embark on this benchmark in our existence, we look forward to the next fifty years of planning for and responding to emergencies here in Wayne County, Pennsylvania.

ENGINE 94 IN SERVICE

After nearly two years of work by our apparatus committee, Company 94 has placed into service Engine 94, a 2008 Rosenbauer 4x4 pumper.  This new unit is comprised of a International 7400 series 4x4 chassis, 1000 GPM rear mount pump, and multiple hoseloads and discharges all within a 23'2" length.  Delivery of this new apparatus ensures efficient water supply and fire attack operations are continued by our dedicated members for many years to come.

COURAGEOUS ACTIONS AT FATAL DWELLING FIRE - JAN. 21

At approximately 0130 hrs, Wayne County Communications dispatched the first alarm assignment for a dwelling fire at the Gravity Plains Apartments in Waymart Borough.  Chief 75 (Derrick) checked on the scene with a working fire on the first floor of a middle-of-the-row dwelling and confirmed entrapment x3 on second floor.  Captain 75 (Sprague) and Lieutenant 75 (Vinton) went in service with an 1-3/4" attack line from Rescue 75 to the first floor as Prompton Firefighter/EMT Michael Felsman and other members from mutual aid fire companies attempted a rescue on the second floor.  Intense heat pushed firefighters back down until ventilation was completed.  Felsman and other firefighters assumed their searches and located three unconscious victims on the second floor and removed them from the the residence to awaiting EMS personnel.

Although the three victims succumbed to injuries sustained in the fire, the courageous actions of firefighters from Waymart, Prompton and surrounding communities serve as a shining example of the honor, service, courage and duty the firefighters here in Wayne County continuously hold near and dear to their hearts as they stand ready, willing and able to protect the lives and property of the citizens we protect.  Well done men.
